INTERIOR DESIGN – The egyptian market

Economic conditions have started to improve considerably, after a period of stagnation, due to the adoption of more liberal economic policies by the government as well as increased revenues from tourism and a booming stock market. In its annual report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has rated Egypt as one of the top countries in the world undertaking economic reforms.

With the implementation of large high-end development projects outside Cairo and the Mediterranean areas, the intervention of interior designers has increased significantly.

In addition, the latest trends in the furnishing markets brought about more flexible furniture design and simple integrating furnishing accessories which made it much easier for home-owners to renovate, remodel and decorate their homes with much more simplicity without sacrificing practicality. The role of the interior designer is to place all these ideas into one common workable and practical space to reflect the personality, lifestyle and interests of his clients.

Design options are given to the client in 3-D rendering form. At this early stage, space planning, colour schemes, custom furniture, soft furnishings, fixtures, fittings and materials such as flooring and wall coverings to be used are discussed and determined. A draft design including relevant 3-D perspectives is presented for discussion. The final presentation will consist of coloured 3-D computer visuals giving a complete overview of the entire room.  Detailed working drawings of room designs, as well of all the M & E services incorporated in the project, will be provided as explained hereunder:

1. Overall Furniture Layouts and Space Management
2. Selection of the appropriate Interior and Exterior Flooring and Bathroom Tiling
3. Selection of the necessary Lighting Fixtures, Sanitary ware, Mixers, etc.
4. Selection and design of Wall Coverings such as Gypsum, Glass, Tiling, Wallpaper etc.
5. Selection and Design of all Interior Furniture and all Soft Furnishings to include Curtains, Blinds, Awnings, Carpets, etc.
6. Selection of Accessories
7. Working drawings regarding Lighting, Power, Air Conditioning and Extra Low Voltage Working for Electricians and Service Contractors
8. Working drawings regarding Plumbing and Gas Working for Plumbers and Service Contractors
9. Working drawings regarding Gypsum ceilings, interior and exterior apertures, Flooring and Bathrooms and Kitchen joinery

Procedure

The project management of each project is entrusted to an independent professional Company of contractors and suppliers headed by an experienced project leader. This professional team, based in Cairo, Egypt, will assist the client in formulating all product specifications in conformity with the approved designs. Following the compilation of the final bills of quantities, the project manager will coordinate all the works and services as per designer-approved plans, and will coordinate the strict time-frames and the costings with the client.

All awarded works and services will be organised and monitored by the project manager on a daily basis up to the final day of the refurbishing process.
